  • Guided Tours for Adults and Families

The guided tour starts in the four-sided portico and follows the same itinerary as that of the early pilgrims who came to see the saint’s remains. The main stops are the large ambo ‘fused’ to the so-called ‘Sarcophagus of Stilicho’, the presbytery with its stunning apse mosaic and, most importantly, the glittering ‘golden altar’.

Next, we will head down to the crypt, to see the remains of the saint, and then back up to see oneof the places most dear to Ambrose but still little known: the sacellum of San Vittore in Ciel d’oro. Here, there is a mosaic with a portrait-like portrayal of Ambrose, along with other Milanese martyr saints.
